How to paint meaningful words/verses/quotes onto wood

It's Friday!!

I have a simple craft that I will leave you with today. Maybe you'll have time over the weekend to work on it. It's fun, easy and so versatile.

Onto our D.I.Y. craft...
"How to paint meaningful words/verses/quotes onto wood"

Here are 2 that I've done.

This is one of my favorite Bible verses. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" ~Philippians 4:13. It is a constant reminder that we can do everything with God's strength. This is currently hanging in Austin's room. He can see it from his bed and when he learns to read, he will be able to set his eyes on the words every time he's in bed. He can read some sight words..so that's a start! :)

"Blessed" I love that word. It holds such great meaning in my life. I feel so blessed to have a wonderful husband who is a great provider and Daddy to our kiddos. I'm blessed by God each day, even though I am so underserving. I feel blessed to have a Savior-Jesus Christ who loves me with an everlasting love. I feel so blessed to have such loving children, an amazing family, fantastic friends, a Church family I adore, a home, a job...the list goes on and on.

Let's get to it....

1.) These are the paints I used. I think I got them at Walmart, very inexpensive. They work perfect. And you'll need a paint brush.

2.) For the wood I used to paint on. To be completely honest, the wood pieces are from blinds I bought at Ikea years ago. They were so dusty and dirty that I was going to just throw them away. But, not this Mama. I found another way to recycle them. I broke them apart to make the perfect lengths I needed to do this project. And I'm so glad I did. However, the hubby threw away the rest of them (he doesn't like stuff sitting around) which I'm sad about. So next time I do another one of these I will purchase one of these from Joann Fabric and Craft Stores...

Rustic Palette 11.5"X11"-

Wood Crate

Rustic Palette 14"X24"-

Basswood Country Plank-7'' to 9''x11''/Rectangle

Super adorable, right? And all pretty inexpensive. But, maybe you have something lying around the house that you could re-use?
3.) Next step,
Find a fitting word or Verse or quote you'd like to write on your wood.

Here are a few options:

~Grateful
~Happy
~Family
~Thankful
~JOY
~Peace

"A cheerful heart fills the day with song." ~Proverbs 15:15 The Message

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." ~Psalm 139:14

The options are endless...

4.) Paint the background color on your wood. Let it dry. When it does dry, you could use sandpaper to scrape it a bit to make it look more rustic. That's what I did

5.) You're ready to beautifully write you words onto the wood. Choose a color that will stand out on your background color.

6.) Let dry and Wa-La...you're done! Great job! To hang on your wall, I would highly recommend using Command Picture Hanging Strips. They work like a charm! I love them and use them all over my home. No nail holes!

Here's what they look like.

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

This is my first "Favorite Things" post and I'm so excited to share some things that I love!

First up...

This Scarf! I love it so much. I could wear every single day and not get sick of it. It goes great with ANY kind of shirt. It's from Nordstrom's. I don't live close to a Nordstrom's but there's free shipping-no minimum. So that makes it so easy. I first heard about it from Pinterest Told Me To. She has an awesome blog!
Here is one occasion that I'm wearing it. We went bowling with some friends. This is my amazing friend, Crystal. She also has the scarf and loves it!! (By the way, she has a fantastic new blog. Check it out by clicking on her name ) :)

Next up...

This book!

I love "Reshaping it All" By: Candace Cameron Bure. I just started it and am almost finished. It is such an inspiring book. It makes me want to make the most of every second of my day. I'm inspired to be a better Mommy, take better care of myself by eating more healthy and spending more alone time with my Jesus. I am loving it. I already have someone in line to borrow the book after me.

And when I'm done with that book, I will be buying this next book by her. "Balancing It All." Because I want to know how she does it. I try my best to balance it all but I'm always looking for more pointers. And have I said how much I adore Candace Cameron Bure? I follow her on Instagram and she seems like THE sweetest!

My next Favorite book...
Is...

"Sparkly Green Earrings"
By Melanie Shankle (AKA Big Mama Blog)
I LOL'd so much in this book! It was a fun loving book. Melanie Shankle would be a great friend! Her stories are so relate able. I enjoyed every page of this book. And I think you would, too. :)

My next Favorite thing is This Candle...

It's from Bath and Body Works and currently on clearance. I got it for Christmas and the scent is delicious. It is not super strong which I love. I can't handle strong scents anymore. The peppermint smell is perfect for my home. I light it every day.

Twisted Peppermint 6 oz. Mason Jar Candle - Slatkin & Co. - Bath & Body Works

And my last Favorite thing for today is... (Drumroll, please)

This Self-Tanning Lotion

My Mom bought it for me last year and I've barely put a dent in the bottle. You only need a very little bit. You can get it here from Amazon and it's $15.95 plus shipping. In my younger days, I would go to the tanning salon. But, I can't do that anymore. So, this lotion has been fantastic. When I use it, I mix it with a little bit of plain lotion so it's not too dark. And be sure to wash your hands as soon as you're done. For the winter, I just put it on my face, neck and arms. It is subtle and beautiful. The picture shows "dark" but I actually have "medium." I love, love it!

Well that wraps up My Favorite Things Post. Please join me next Thursday for more Favorite Things.

Have a Blessed Day!

Jamie :)

Some yummy things....

Before I get started onto today's post I need to let you know that I have a special "Favorite Things Thursday" for you tomorrow....you will not want to miss it!

Yesterday Austin had another 'Snow Day' because of the below zero temps. We had a great day! But, let me tell you...he was excited to go to school today! He was up at 5:30!! And I didn't even have to remind him to get dressed or get his bag packed. He was one excited little kindergartener :) and I was a happy Mommy.

Have you ever made cinnamon & sugar tortillas? They are delish! And so easy!! My kids loved them up yesterday. All you need to do is spread butter on a tortilla, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top. Cut with a pizza cutter into triangles. Bake at 350 for 5-8 minutes until a bit crunchy and Wa-La…DONE!

This oatmeal with pomegranate seeds was very flavorful. No sugar needed!

I was in the apple baking kind of mood yesterday. I made apple crisp and it was Amazing! I have since ate most of all of it! (Please don't judge me, I am such a sweets eater!) I got the recipe here

Here's the before picture...

And the after picture...

Enjoy! Comment if you have a simple n' delish recipe you'd like to share. I'd love to try it!
Have a great day!!

Jamie :)

Don't worry, be happy!

Happy January! We've had some fun over at the Ross home these past couple days. We painted, made popcorn from our new popcorn maker we got for Christmas, we made card houses, played with boxes and played Trouble. I love these little boys so much!

And here is my tired Troy boy. He put up a good fit about not wanting to wear snowpants to go outside. I finally convinced him to put them on then he didn't want to wear gloves. So I let him sit at the top of the stairs while I cleaned up breakfast. I was hopeful he would change his mind and put the gloves on. But oh no, after all that, he fell asleep. Poor little tired boy.
The devotional I'm reading right now is "Heaven Calling" By: Zondervan. It is wonderful! Each day there is a Bible verse, a couple paragraphs written to YOU from God, a prayer, and some verses to read on your own. It is really inspiring. A couple days ago the topic was on worries. and it couldn't have spoken clearer to me. My favorite part of the devotional was the last paragraph "Rest assured that I have everything under control in your life too. Just give me your worries, child. In exchange, I'll give you my peace." That couldn't have been written any more beautifully. That is exactly what God wants from us, He wants us to TRUST IN HIM! Read Genesis 7. There it speaks about Noah building the ark and how God did not want him to worry about how the animals would enter the ark because that was all taken care of by God. Noah needed to build the ark and leave the rest up to God. I will let God take the lead and just trust in Him. I'll take ONE PRECIOUS DAY AT A TIME. Pick up "Heaven Calling", you won't regret it!
